It was homecoming weekend and all of my line brothers and I were packing whatever we could to get off of the campus. Of course, being that it was homecoming weekend there were a lot of hyped-up, visiting bros. from around the country for 2 reasons: Hampton was known to have some of the most beautiful women in the world and GE had a fresh new line just waiting! After about a day-and-a-half of “serious pain management lessons” our DP, Galen Kimbrue, and ADP, Darryl Bennett (my number), felt that we had had enough and told us to disappear from the yard. Unfortunately, I didn’t remember that during one of our sessions, I told one of the brothers from “Bloody” Beta Chapter at Lincoln University my room number and that he could stay there for the weekend. It was a good thought at the time to keep him off of me, but it turned out to be a bad idea!
As one of my line brothers, Jerald Bond, and I sneaked back over to my room to get some additional clothing for the weekend, guess who was there? My roommate and the Brother from “Bloody” Beta were sitting down talking. My roommate was totally unaware of what was going on and without being able to tell him, we were sitting ducks for the unexpected visitor and the rest of his chapter brothers. When my roommate decided to leave, we both started sweating bullets because we were trapped away from the rest of the line. The Brother immediately started the pain management sessions again. Luckily, my LB had a strange idea that worked. He immediately began to act like he was choking violently! He was so convincing that for a while he fooled me! He finally fell to the floor with these God awful faces and I almost started to perform CPR on him. The Brother from Beta was afraid that he had caused some serious damage so he demanded that I drag him out in the hall and call for help. Once we hit the hallway outside that door, you would have thought that we were Olympic sprinters…
Experience Learned: No matter how grim a situation might seem, you can probably get out of it with a creative thought and a will to survive.
